About this deal
As always, each member of the group gets their own little piece of the spotlight, and the dialogue is snappy and often laugh out loud funny.
The simple life is all well and good, but, in this moment, with a murder to investigate, and threatening texts arriving daily, Elizabeth realizes that she has missed trouble. Osman concocts a satisfyingly complex whodunit full of neat twists and wrong turns. But unlike most crime novelists, he ensures his book’s strength and momentum stem not from its plot or its thrills but rather its perfectly formed characters. Once again, the quartet of friends makes for delightful company… Heartwarming and enthralling. ‘They carried a kind of magic, the four of them,’ a policeman muses. That magic is still there in abundance.”The Bullet That Missed hits on every front. Its quandaries stymie, its solutions thrill, its banter is worth reciting and its characters exemplify an admirable camaraderie. One can only hope that the Thursday Murder Club’s next outing appears before long.” The simple life is all well and good, but, in this moment, with a murder to investigate, and threatening texts arriving daily, Elizabeth realizes that she has missed trouble.”
I love these characters: Elizabeth whose husband Stephen is slowly succumbing to dementia; Joyce and her dog Alan; Bogdan who provides muscle when needed and unobtrusively babysits Stephen when Elizabeth is otherwise occupied. To make matters worse, a new nemesis pays Elizabeth a visit, presenting her with a deadly mission: kill or be killed... I have been Googling but there's not much there. I got so desperate I even used Bing but the results were the same if a bit slower. - Joyce It was best to grab everything while you could. He doesn't know the details - a reporter has to keep her secrets - but he knows it's a risky one. He's there if she needs him, but there are some things you have to do alone. Of course, the facts that Ron Ritchie gets to be interviewed on air or that Joyce has a crush on the suave Mike Waghorn are nice side perks while running their investigation. 😉 Above all it’s good to keep busy. Routine is important in prison. Also, it is important to have things to look forward to, and Connie is looking forward to killing Bogdan.” The chapters are short, smart and full of wit, and every character brings flavor to the story. My one and only issue with the book, and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5, is that there was almost TOO much going on, and it created some confusion at times trying to keep all the characters and their connections straight. I’m not sure I’d try this on audio alone, because I found myself needing to look up names and situations a few times, but if you pay close attention you should be fine.
